Directions

  1. Heat BlueStar oven to 375°F. Brown ground beef and Italian sausage thoroughly in the black Staub Dutch oven or de Buyer Country Fry Pan, breaking the meat into small pieces. Drain excess fat if needed. Add onion and cook until softened, then add garlic and cook briefly. Stir in tomato paste and cook until it darkens slightly. Add crushed tomatoes, tomato sauce, Italian seasoning, salt, and black pepper. Simmer until rich and slightly reduced. In a bowl, combine ricotta, egg, and Parmesan. Prepare lasagna noodles according to package directions if using noodles that require precooking. In a deep baking dish, spread a layer of meat sauce, followed by noodles, ricotta mixture, and mozzarella. Repeat layers, finishing with meat sauce and mozzarella. Cover and bake about 30 minutes. Uncover and bake another 15 to 20 minutes until bubbling throughout and the cheese is deeply golden around the edges. Rest at least 15 minutes before slicing so the layers set. Finish with fresh parsley.

Equipment

Black Staub Dutch oven or de Buyer Country Fry Pan for meat sauce; Wüsthof IKON Chef’s Knife; Asahi Hi-Soft cutting board; deep baking dish; mixing bowl; wooden spoon or spatula; saucepan and colander if noodles require precooking; BlueStar range and oven.

Food safety & storage

Cook ground beef and sausage thoroughly. Refrigerate lasagna promptly and use within 3–4 days. Reheat until hot throughout. Lasagna may be assembled ahead and refrigerated before baking; account for the colder starting temperature and verify the center is fully heated. Freeze individual portions or the assembled casserole when appropriate using freezer-safe storage.

Keep something good cooking.
